Making an adset can take a lot of work and you might not want to expose people to the full extent of the studio who do not have a designing or technical background. Maybe sometimes people just want to upload a picture and be done with it.
Of course, this is possible if you just make one adset and keep duplicating that adset, but there are easier ways to go about this.
A template adset is not that different from a normal adset, except for the fact that it is located in a template project. Every adset made in this project will automatically be a template project, and works almost the same way as you would configure a regular adset.
Based on these template adsets, you can make derived templates. Anyone can make a derived adset, they just simply check the "use template" switch while making a new template. This will then make a derived set, which has the following properties:
- Normal users cannot access the editor
- Normal users can only edit the contents of the adset via the adset manager
- Users cannot add additional banners to the set
It may seem limiting, but it also provides you with a way to offer complex banners without having to worry about the animations remaining intact and people getting lost by the complexity.
How to make a template adset
Making a template is not a big deal, you make an adset in the Template Project. However, only Admins can add new templates, so if you are a user, you should request the admin of your company to upgrade your rights.
How to enable a template adset
Making and configuring a template adset is the same as you would with a normal adset. During that time, the template will not be able to be used by other users. In order to enable the adset, you have to click the following switch. Whenever you make an update to an adset, this switch will be reset, so you have to re-enable the visibility of the adset.
Note: When you make an update to a template, it will not affect any adsets that have been using this template previously.
How to make a derived adset
A derived adset can be made in any project, by any user. If there's a template adset available, the switch "Use a template" will appear. When this switch is turned on, the user is required to select a template to derive from. Once confirmed, the adset will be copied into this project, and the user will then be directed to the adset manager.
